Songs from the Office – Episode #8 – Love Never Fails

Songs from the Office graphicFor this week’s SFTO episode features an artist I was introduced to last year – Brandon Heath.  His first hit was “GIve Me Your Eyes”.  We  did that in church last year and I bought the CD to learn the song.  It turns out the CD is really good and quickly became one of my favorites.  I’m now a fan and will watch for his next album.  They recently began playing his song, Love Never Fails, on the radio.  I predict this will become a standard at weddings.

This is actually a sneak peak at the song we’ll be playing this Sunday to wrap up our pastor’s sermon series on Love.  We’ll be adding a few more instruments for that.  Until then, I hope you’ll not only enjoy this acoustic “live-rehearsal” of the song, but also the well-composed song itself!

Songs from the Office – Episode #7 – Majestic

Songs from the Office graphicFor this week’s SFTO episode, I go back, again, to Lincoln Brewster.  This is on the same album as the song from Episode #5 (All To You).  After going back and looking at it, I’m pretty sure I took it a little fast.  But its that kind of song – where you feel like it should go fast.  I was actually fairly out of breath by the end of the song.  This is somewhat a regular at our church.

Songs from the Office – Episode #6 – The Only Hope

This week’s song is The Only Hope by Bebo Norman. I first became a fan of Bebo when I went searching for new Christmas songs to use in our church services. I came across one of his songs while listening to samples in the iTunes store. I liked what I heard and downloaded the album. I was really captured by his lyrics, songs, and voice. I then over time collected a few more of his songs including his newest album titled Bebo Norman. The Only Hope is on that album. You can’t really recreate the energy the original in a solo acoustic performance.

Beyond just liking the composition of the song, the lyrics really resonate with me and echo thoughts I’ve had myself. For whatever it’s worth, episode #6!

Songs from the Office – Episode #5 – All to you

Songs from the Office graphicA few years ago my brother told me “You HAVE to get this album!” It was Lincoln Brewster’s new live album. So I did. And I listened to it. And I was blown away! That was the first time I ever heard Lincoln Brewster. And my first thought was finally – someone put a guitar solo in Christian music. All To You was one of the first songs I listend to and my jaw just dropped when I heard the solo – and it went on and on. Thank you Linoln Brewster, for not being afraid of a guitar solo.

So here’s one of my favorite worship tunes, All To You. We used this as an opening/closing song this past Sunday. We didn’t do the guitar solo but we have a good sax player that improv’ed on one of the sections. We had a really good time playing it. As Mr. Jackson would say, the vocals are a little pitchy, but generally ok. I tell you, it’s tricky when you do one live take to get it right! Thanks for watching!

Songs from the Office – Episode #3 – Between You and Me

This week’s song was recorded a few weeks ago when I recorded a few songs in case I had a week where I was too busy to record a song. We did this song on December 27th, 2009. This one was a lot of fun to play so I thought I’d share it.
